The ILM Level 7 Award in Strategic Leadership, ILM Level 7 Certificate in Strategic Leadership, and ILM Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Leadership are qualifications that have been specially designed to give practising or potential senior managers and leaders critical evaluative skills for their formal development in this role.

The Award is a concise qualification made up of two mandatory units. In the first unit participants review different leadership theories relevant to their organisation and investigate organisational leadership performance by analysing a critical incident. The second unit, ‘Developing the reflective leader’, enables participants to reflect on their learning and experience to improve their performance.

The Certificate builds and broadens the skills and knowledge gained in the Award. The third mandatory unit at this level, ‘The leadership journey’, is designed to enable participants to develop autonomy and self-direction in their learning. It also aims to develop skills in reflecting holistically on experience and learning within a given context over an extended period.

The Diploma develops a comprehensive range of leadership skills, providing participants with the broad body of knowledge required by senior managers and leaders. The qualification builds on the Award and Certificate, though is more suited to practising senior managers or leaders, due to the more challenging demands of the programme. Organisational change is examined in the additional mandatory unit – reviewing the causes of change and its potential effects on an organisation and evaluating and justifying different leadership models to enable change.
